iPhone Blood Glucose Meters and Diabetes Monitors

Two Main glucose monitor devices for the iPhone; the IBGStar, made by Sanofia  and the  Glucometer

There is search for the killer medical device, or device to be able to detect, non-invasively, the  serum blood glucose levels in diabetes, including a “Tatoo”, and various other non-invasive means, but that day has not arrived.  In the meanwhile, patients can pick from the following iphone peripheral devices.  Diabetes apps will be discussed in the Diabetes Apps section.

What is called a “Killer App” will be the creaton of a non-invasive way to measure serum glucose.  That day has not arrived yet, at least none has been approved by the FDA, but that day will soon come, and ALTAPURE says they will be the first.

Until then, we have peripheral devices as on this page.

IBGStar is a blood glucose meter plug-in for the iPhone   There is a  an iBGStar Diabetes Manager App that tracks blood glucose, carbohydrate intake, and insulin dose.
The benefit of this peripheral is to manage your regimen of care of the diabetes, by posting alerts, keeping log, etc.

Finger sticks with the lancet are still required. There are other devices on the horizon of the digital revolution that will avoid being stuck to check glucose.

Glucophone is a combination cellphone/glucometer.  The glucometer is actually incorporated INTO the phone, and the test strips are inserted in the side.  integrated cell phone-glucometer system introduced in 2006 that used custom software on certain LG mobile phones along with a Glucopack fitted onto the device’s back. Users place the test strip in a small slot on the side of the GlucoPak, with the results uploaded seconds later to the HealthPia website, and securely stored there. The results can be automatically sent to your physician, guardian, or family member in real-time. After its initial announcement, Glucophone was MIA for a year, and many believed the product to vaporware. Finally, in August 2007, HealthPia announced that they’d received FDA approval for the device .
