FITNESS TRACKER WATCH FOCUSING ON WELLNESS
This thick watch-like device measures various body parameters, and is also awaiting approval from the FDA. It is also marketed as a fitness device, although it certainly has potential in the field of mobile medicine.
It hosts advanced sensors. A specialized optical sensor obtains heart rate by directing light into the skin, allowing tracking pulsatile blood flow, allowing for calculation of a very accurate reading. There are two heat sensors that tracks skin temperature, and ambient temperataure changes; an accelerometer sensor, that detects motion, and galvanic skin sensors that aid in measuring sweat levels in exercise, which indicates the intensity of activity.
With this data, the web interface calculates how well you have slept, and the calories that were burned. Feedback is given by graphs, and other web visual aids, to allow to comparisons of the data over time.
The importance of this wrist sensory device for medicine is that it another potential source of body vitals signs, and may become more prominent if technologies such as optical visualization are improved according to Moore’s law. In the meantime, the Basis Wristband will find its’ main use in the Exercise arena.nbsp;
Basis has been funded with 9 million dollars from Norwest Venture Partners.
